RIU is also closely collaborating with the local communities surrounding its hotels. For example, RIU funded training, development and local culture projects in Africa and Latin America. Since 2012, it has maintained its membership of ECPAT, where it is currently a Top Member, and since 2021 it has held an agreement with the IUF to strengthen equality and labour rights in its teams.
In terms of environmental advances, the 2024 Annual Report includes a 10% reduction in its scope 1 and 2 emissions per stay in 2024, which is 61% less than in 2021. Currently, 72% of RIU’s hotels have environmental certifications, with pioneering milestones such as the zero food waste certification in all of its hotels in Mallorca and the use of renewable electricity in 76% of its hotels.
