Travalyst launches the Data Hub – a new sustainability data platform built to support industry-wide systems change
Travalyst, the independent not-for-profit coalition of leading travel and technology companies founded by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, today announces the launch of the Data Hub. This platform is designed to make sustainability data more accessible, credible, compliant1 and comparable across the travel sector.
Currently, it’s difficult for travellers to choose responsibly, for businesses to share information and comply with legislation, and for policymakers to make data-driven decisions.
As a first step toward telling the sustainability story of every business and every trip, this version of the Data Hub begins to unlock the flow of fragmented and inconsistent data, turning it into credible, compliant, and comparable information. This foundational data provision enables industry stakeholders — from booking platforms to corporate travel managers and policymakers — to build the tools and services they need. The Data Hub itself does not provide analytics, benchmarking, or reporting. Instead, it acts as a neutral data exchange that supplies the consistent, comparable information that those solutions rely on.
Travalyst is actively inviting businesses, destinations, and data holders across the travel ecosystem to contribute data to the Data Hub. Sharing data helps strengthen a collaborative, industry-wide system for sustainability—one that benefits all without compromising competitive advantage.
The Data Hub is defined by several key features, including:
Travalyst makes this announcement just shy of 12 months after acquiring the IP of Weeva, a sustainability SaaS product, whose technology was repurposed to enable Travalyst to develop a new, interoperable system for connected, transparent, and open access sustainability data.
This initial version focuses on providing accommodation data, namely the Universal KPIs4 for environmental footprint, as well as certifications and basic attribute data. Future releases will incorporate biodiversity and social sustainability data, covering accommodations, destinations, rail, and end-to-end journeys, delivered in a consistent and comparable format, enabling scalable, system-wide change.
This vital sustainability information is designed to flow directly into booking platforms, business tools, reporting systems and decision-making frameworks, enabling more responsible choices and effective planning across the travel ecosystem. However, as per Travalyst’s mission, the Data Hub will enable data provision at scale and not deliver these end-to-end services or pre-determine use cases.
Developed in collaboration with Travalyst’s coalition5 of partners from the travel, payments, booking platforms, and technology sectors, the Data Hub is the result of extensive working groups and advisory sessions focused on governance, interoperability, data distribution, and accessibility. Travalyst also worked closely with SMEs from accommodation membership bodies, to sustainability tech platforms, and hotel operators to validate assumptions and ensure the system delivers real value across the supply chain.
Travalyst has a strong track record of stewarding and scaling impact-related data across the sector non-commercially. Its earlier collaboration with Google on the Travel Impact Model for aviation has already been integrated into over 130 billion travel searches globally.
The Data Hub provides a scalable solution to the fragmented, inconsistent, and often paywalled sustainability data landscape. It is free to contribute data and have it distributed across various partner channels for display to consumers.
