Six Senses The Palm, Dubai Places Sustainability At The Heart Of Its Resort Experience

As Six Senses prepares to make its debut in the UAE, Six Senses The Palm, Dubai is placing sustainability at the heart of its resort experience, shaping how guests will engage with the destination through design, learning, culture and community interaction.

Designed as a beachfront urban sanctuary, the resort introduces a sustainability-led approach to resort living in Dubai, integrating environmental considerations into its architecture, materials, operations and guest experiences from the outset.

A central feature of the resort is Earth Lab, Six Senses’ dedicated space for learning and hands-on engagement. Open to guests, residents and the wider Dubai community, Earth Lab will host workshops focused on waste reduction, recycling, upcycling and responsible consumption, alongside educational programmes for children designed to encourage early environmental awareness. The space is intended to bring sustainability to life in a practical, accessible way through participation and learning.

Sustainability also extends beyond environmental performance to cultural engagement through Crafted Experiences, a curated programme offering guests opportunities to connect with the heritage, traditions and stories of the Emirates through locally rooted activities.

The resort has applied for LEED Silver certification and incorporates a range of sustainable design and operational systems. These include energy-efficient district cooling, solar-assisted hot water systems, biodiverse green roofs and greywater recovery systems that treat and reuse water for landscape irrigation, significantly reducing potable water demand across the property.

Responsible sourcing has been prioritised throughout the development. All timber used for indoor and outdoor furniture is FSC certified, while much of the furniture and finishes have been sourced within the region to support local craftsmanship and reduce environmental impact. Custom furniture has been produced in a LEED Platinum-certified facility in Udaipur, India.

The landscape has been designed as a climate-responsive environment, featuring drought-tolerant planting, shaded outdoor areas, organic gardens and habitats for local wildlife. These elements support biodiversity while creating more usable outdoor space throughout the year and reducing irrigation demand through efficient water management.

A comprehensive waste management programme will include a zero single-use plastic policy, on-site waste segregation, composting systems and material recovery initiatives focused on reducing, reusing and recycling across operations.

Further supporting the resort’s sustainability approach is the Sustainability Fund, which allocates 0.5 percent of resort revenue to environmental and social projects benefiting the local ecosystem and surrounding community.

Supporting the implementation of these initiatives is Dominic Paul Dubois, Director of Sustainability at Six Senses The Palm, Dubai. He will oversee sustainability across operations, guest experience and community engagement, ensuring environmental principles are embedded across the resort experience.

Reflecting on the resort’s approach, Dominic says, “Joining Six Senses The Palm, Dubai is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a property where sustainability is integrated into the guest experience from the outset. Through Earth Lab, educational initiatives and experiences connected to the culture and heritage of the Emirates, we aim to create meaningful opportunities for guests and the wider community to engage more consciously with their environment.”

Dominic joins Six Senses The Palm, Dubai with extensive international experience in sustainability and hospitality. Most recently, he served as Director of Sustainability at Six Senses Crans-Montana, where he led sustainability initiatives across the resort’s pre-opening phase, including waste management, energy reduction, responsible sourcing and community engagement, as well as establishing the resort’s Earth Lab and Sustainability Fund.

As Six Senses prepares to open its first property in the UAE, sustainability is positioned not as an additional layer but as a defining part of the resort experience, shaping how guests connect with place, culture and environment.
