Senior IAS Officer Mugdha Sinha joins ITDC as the new Managing Director
Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has announced the appointment of Senior IAS Officer Mugdha Sinha as the new Managing Director
Mugdha Sinha, IAS will serve in the rank and pay scale of an Additional Secretary to the Government of India, as confirmed by an official government notification.
Before this appointment, she held the Director General, Tourism position in the Ministry of Tourism—also an Additional Secretary-level role. She was empanelled for this senior rank in May 2024. Her extensive experience in cultural administration includes a notable tenure as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, where she led the GLAM Division and successfully curated three major national events: the International Museum Expo, the Festival of Libraries, and the India Art, Architecture & Design Biennale.
Mugdha Sinha has also made a strong mark in Rajasthan’s cultural and science policy spheres. She served as Director General of Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK), Jaipur, during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she launched the pioneering Astro Night Sky Tourism initiative—a concept that gained traction across states and eventually led to the declaration of Hanle in Ladakh as India’s first Dark Sky Reserve. During the lockdown, she also spearheaded the creation of an e-platform to crowdsource artist data and facilitate performance-based financial support, ensuring continued livelihood for artists under difficult circumstances.
Her appointment to ITDC continues a tradition of Rajasthan cadre officers taking on leadership roles in national tourism bodies, following in the footsteps of Lalit K. Panwar (1979 batch), who previously served as Secretary – Tourism and also led ITDC as both Managing Director and Chairman-cum-Managing Director.
The India Tourism Development Corporation, established in 1966 under the Ministry of Tourism, has played a foundational role in the growth of tourism infrastructure and hospitality services in the country. Its current portfolio includes three Ashok Group hotels, one joint venture property, a standalone restaurant, five Ashok Travel & Tours (ATT) units, and 14 duty-free shops at major seaports.
Mugdha Sinha’s appointment is expected to strengthen ITDC’s strategic initiatives and reinforce its position in India’s evolving tourism landscape.
