Saruni Basecamp Earns B Corp™ Certification

Saruni Basecamp, a portfolio of 13 pioneering, innovative and ethical safari camps and lodges rooted in community-based conservation and tourism, has earned B Corp™ Certification, joining a small group of businesses independently verified as a force for good.

For Saruni Basecamp, the certification is recognition of a belief the company was built on: that a safari can protect the wilderness it travels through. Every stay supports community-owned conservancies, keeps critical wildlife ecosystems intact, and puts income, employment, and opportunity into the rural communities who are the true custodians of these landscapes. The B Corp™ assessment simply asked us to prove it, and we did.
Awarded by the nonprofit B Lab, the certification follows an independent review of the whole business, from how the company is governed and how its people are paid and cared for, to its relationships with local suppliers, its environmental footprint, and how honestly it deals with its guests. More than 11,000 companies worldwide now carry certification. Over 100 of them are in Africa, and only a handful in Kenya.

The certification places Saruni Basecamp within a growing movement of responsible businesses on the continent, championed from Nairobi by B Lab Africa. For guests, it is an independent assurance that a stay with Saruni Basecamp gives back more than it takes. For the communities and conservancies, we work with; it means our commitments to them are no longer just our word, but are formally made, independently assessed, and regularly renewed.
