Me’gong Festival 2025 returns to Garo Hills with global artists, local performers, cultural displays and sustainable practices.
Meghalaya has announced the return of the Me’gong Festival to Tura on December 5 and 6, 2025, with an international lineup featuring pop-rock musician Richard Marx and electronic duo Yellow Claw. The festival, regarded as one of the State’s major cultural events, continues to gain national visibility for its programming and scale.
The 2025 edition aligns with Meghalaya’s cultural economy framework outlined by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, which positions large-format festivals as key drivers of tourism, livelihoods and community participation. Over recent years, Me’gong has evolved into one of the State’s prominent cultural platforms. The 2024 edition drew more than three lakh visitors in two days, marking one of the highest festival turnouts in the Northeast and underscoring its growing national and international reach.
Officials note that the festival’s scale contributes to a broader economic ecosystem involving local hospitality, transport, artisans, food enterprises and youth-led initiatives. The event has also played a role in positioning the Garo Hills as an emerging cultural and tourism centre.
According to official data, the 2024 edition drew more than three lakh visitors over two days, marking one of the largest festival gatherings in the Northeast. In previous years, the event has hosted acts such as the Swedish rock band EUROPE, which performed in the region for the first time in 2024.
Alongside global performers, the 2025 programme will include Indian artists Kanika Kapoor and Neeti Mohan, as well as Garo Hills–based bands such as Rough Road, Hoi Hoi Makbil, Haystack Ladies, G-Hills Finest, Crack Gang and Ahaia.
The festival will also feature cultural activities including displays of Garo cuisine and exhibitions focused on traditional crafts, weaving, bamboo work and bead artistry. Organisers have stated that the event will continue to implement measures such as zero-plastic operations and community-managed waste systems.
The Me’gong Festival forms part of Meghalaya’s broader cultural calendar and is aligned with initiatives aimed at strengthening cultural and tourism-linked infrastructure in the Garo Hills region.
