LAM suspends several routes
LAM suspends several routes
On February 18, Linhas Aéreas de Mozambique (LAM) announced the suspension of flights to Lisbon, Harare and Lusaka due to the routes being “unsustainable”.
At a press conference, Alfredo Cossa, LAM spokesperson, said the carrier had incurred losses of more than US$21 million (R387 million) due to the operation of the Lisbon route, reports clubofmozambique.com.
“We fuelled this (Lisbon) route based on funds from the domestic market. We produced and paid for it, and at this point we can no longer cope,” said Cossa.
He explained that passengers who had already bought tickets for the Maputo-Lisbon service would be travelling with other airlines under agreements with LAM.
“Once we’ve put our house in order and consolidated our position, we’ll look at intercontinental and regional routes,” added Cossa.
