Finnair invites travellers to experience the happiest country’s jam-packed summer season

Whether it be Swamp Soccer championships, Terassimölkky’s Mölkky World Championships, or world-class music festivals under the midnight sun, Finnair, Finland’s national carrier, is inviting passengers to discover Finland’s vibrant summer season.

With up to 48 direct flights from the UK to Helsinki each week, it’s never been easier to experience Finland at its most joyful, and for travellers to dive head first into Finnish culture.

One highlight includes experiencing the 2026 Mölkky World Championships in Helsinki. Taking place in mid-August, the competition celebrates Finland’s beloved outdoor game, where players use a throwing pin (mölkky) to knock over wooden pins. The game is often described as the country’s answer to lawn games, and welcomes players of all ages and abilities from more than 20 countries. Alternatively, visitors can travel to Oulu in late August for the infamous Air Guitar World Championships, where competitors from around the world partake in one of Finland’s most iconic events.

Further afield, music lovers can enjoy anything from Blockfest in Tampere, Finland’s biggest hip-hop festival with trap music mogul Future set to headline, to the genre-spanning jazz, soul, and indi-rock Flow Festival in Helsinki. Not forgetting the thunderous ‘Hellsinki’ Metal Festival, the Italian spectacle of Savonlinna Opera Festival, or one of Finland’s biggest electronic dance music festivals ‘Weekend’, there’s truly something for every taste.

Those looking for a truly unique Finnish summer should already mark their calendars for July next year, when the annual Swamp Soccer World Cup sees competitors battle it out playing football exactly as the name suggests, while the legendary Wife-Carrying World Championships in Sonkajärvi invites participants to race through an obstacle course carrying their partners.

Anssi Partanen, Market Director Europe, Finnair said: “There’s something wonderfully Finnish about spending a summer afternoon playing Mölkky, cheering on Swamp Soccer or dancing under the midnight sun. These are the moments that give Finland its unique character, and with Finnair’s direct frequent service from the UK to Helsinki, alongside seamless onward connections across the country, travellers can discover unforgettable summer experiences in every corner of Finland.”
