After New York, Air India starts non-stop flight between Delhi and Newark
Tata-owned Air India on Thursday started operations from Delhi to New Jersey’s Newark through its flagship A350-900 aircraft. This follows Air India’s A350 service on the Delhi-New York (JFK) inaugurated on November 1, 2024.
With this, Air India now serves all non-stop flights between India’s capital and the New York region with its A350 aircraft, said the airline in a statement.
Previously, Air India announced significant updates to its international route network starting 2025. The changes will see Air India deploy its best aircraft to key gateways in Southeast Asia and Europe, complementing the deployment of its flagship A350 and B777 with upgraded cabin interiors on multiple U.S. and UK routes earlier, said the Tata group-owned airline.
The updates also lead to optimised flight schedules for key international routes to offer greater flexibility to travellers as well as to enable seamless intercontinental travel between North America or Europe and Australia or Southeast Asia via Air India’s hubs in Delhi and Mumbai.
Air India and Air India Express together operate 298 aircraft, flying to and from 55 destinations in India and 48 abroad. For a comparison, market leader IndiGo which has over 60% share, has 418 aircraft in its fleet and on an average is adding one aircraft per week. While Air India Express will add 15 more planes by March, the next tranche of Air India’s aircraft delivery starts from 2026.
