Tokyu Hotels & Resorts Signs MOU with GSTC to Advance Sustainable Tourism and Hotel Operations

Tokyu Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd. (THR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) to cooperate in advancing sustainable tourism and sustainable hotel operations aligned with international sustainability standards.

The MOU was signed by Takashi Takei, President & Representative Director of Tokyu Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd., and Randy Durband, Chief Executive Officer of GSTC.

Under the MOU, Tokyu Hotels & Resorts will adopt the GSTC Standards as a framework for developing and implementing its sustainability roadmap, objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and related initiatives. The cooperation will also focus on promoting sustainable hotel operations and strengthening sustainability considerations across THR’s products, services, operational systems, and supply chain.

Based on the GSTC Standards, THR will seek to enhance products, services, and operational systems that take into account environmental, social, cultural, and economic sustainability. THR will also seek to foster closer collaboration across its supply chain, working with partners, suppliers, and hotels certified by GSTC-accredited Certification Bodies to advance sustainable practices.

“We are pleased to enter into this MOU with GSTC, marking a significant milestone in our sustainability journey. By leveraging the GSTC Standards and expertise, we will further enhance our sustainability initiatives and integrate these principles throughout our organisation. Through this collaboration, we seek to strengthen our brand and reinforce our operational competitiveness as a global hotel operator while contributing to the continued globalisation and international competitiveness of Japan’s tourism and hospitality sector,” said Takashi Takei, President & Representative Director of Tokyu Hotels & Resorts.

“We are very pleased to enter into this cooperation with Tokyu Hotels & Resorts, whose adoption of the GSTC Standards as a framework for its sustainability roadmap marks an important step forward,” said Randy Durband, CEO of GSTC. “We look forward to working together to support knowledge exchange, capacity building, and more sustainable practices across hotel operations and the wider supply chain in Japan.”

Education, training, and capacity building will form another area of cooperation. GSTC and THR will collaborate on educational, awareness-raising, and knowledge-sharing activities related to the GSTC Standards and sustainable tourism, including seminars, workshops, and case studies, for THR employees, suppliers, other relevant stakeholders, and broader audiences in Japan and internationally.
