UK rolls out ETA for European passport holders
UK rolls out ETA for European passport holders
The second phase of the UK’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system will be implemented from April 2.
The ETA system applies to nationals from visa-exempt countries. Certain visa-exempt countries in South America, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, North America, the Middle East and Oceania have been required to apply for the ETA since the first phase was introduced on January 8.
Beginning April 2, European visa-exempt travellers must apply for the ETA.
Travellers can apply via the app or the www.gov.uk website. It costs £10 (R235) but will increase to £16 (R377) from April 9.
Applicants are required to have the passport they will travel with, access to their emails and an applicable payment method (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Apple Pay or Google Pay). They will also have to upload a photo of themselves and their passport.
An email confirming their ETA will be sent, usually within three working days, and will be linked to the passport they applied with.
