Sahib Room & Kipling Bar Opens its Doors at The St. Regis Mumbai
The St. Regis Mumbai has announced the opening of new restaurant, Sahib Room & Kipling Bar
Sahib Room & Kipling Bar at The St. Regis Mumbai is a concept restaurant and bar inspired by India’s colonial-era safari camps and the literary legacy of Rudyard Kipling. The space draws on themes from The Jungle Book and Kipling’s travels across India, which are reflected in both its design and symbolic elements—most notably, its logo featuring a poised panther, “Bagheera.”
The interiors reference vintage travel trunks and safari tents, with dark wood floors, tented ceilings, and muted tones complemented by foliage-lined corners, antique mirrors, and carved wooden details. These design elements collectively aim to evoke the atmosphere of a bygone retreat frequented by royals, nobles, and explorers.
The venue includes a spectacle kitchen and a chef’s table under a tented canopy, designed for small-group dining experiences. The restaurant is led by Chef Taj, known for traditional Indian culinary techniques and menu curation. The food offerings include a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes such as Kalonji Paneer, Sahib Ki Dal-E-Khaas, Murgh Rezala, and Rampur ki Gosht Dum Biryani, alongside Indian breads and desserts like Phirni and Malai Toast.
The cocktail menu draws geographical and thematic inspiration from Kipling’s journey across India. Each beverage is named after an Indian city or cultural motif, aiming to capture local flavors and influences—examples include drinks inspired by Mumbai, Banaras, Madras, Bundi, Dandeli, and Calcutta. The bar also features a selection of Indian whiskies, wines, and regional spirits.
Sahib Room & Kipling Bar integrates literary and historical references into its food, drinks, and ambiance, offering a setting that emphasizes heritage-inspired storytelling through culinary and design choices.
“The Sahib Room & Kipling Bar is a space that reminds us that authenticity is timeless, sensory experiences are universal and no two guests are the same. This is not a modern Indian restaurant, it doesn’t follow trends but it stays true to its roots, it is “proudly Indian”. The team here isn’t just prepared, they’re passionate. Every service, every plate, every ingredient, every cocktail is thoughtfully designed to surprise and make each visit feel personal”, said Varun Chhibber, General Manager, The St. Regis Mumbai.
