Cruise passengers reveal the biggest misconceptions about holidays at sea
A survey of more than 1,100 passengers has highlighted the cruising misconceptions they believe are most common among the general public.
The poll, conducted by cruise specialist cruise.co.uk, found the biggest myth is that cruising is ‘expensive’, selected by 27% of respondents. A holiday at sea ‘only being for retired people’ was cited by 20%, followed by ‘passengers getting seasick’ at 14%.
63% of respondents said there are still misconceptions about cruising among the public, but 55% said there are fewer overall than there were five years ago.
And 64% of respondents said that cruise misconceptions didn’t influence them before they booked their maiden voyage.
Tony Andrews, managing director of cruise.co.uk, said: “Having spoken to thousands of people about cruising over the years, I’ve lost count of the number of times someone has told me about a concern, only to come back from their first holiday at sea wondering why they hadn’t tried it sooner.
“Once someone has cruised, they often appreciate it’s very different to what they imagined, with an incredible range of ships, facilities, destinations and prices to choose from. We always say the best way to find out is to try it for yourself.”
Top five misconceptions about cruising 1. It’s expensive – 27% 2. It’s only for retired people – 20% 3. You get seasick – 14% 4. There’s nothing to do onboard – 11% 5. You have to dress up – 10%
