Myanmar to continue issuing international travel visas

Myanmar has recently announced that it will continue its efforts in issuing travel visas to international travelers in an attempt to re-establish its tourism industry which has been gravely affected by Covid-19 pandemic.

Per last announcement, “e-Visas” were scheduled to be issued last May 15 which can be accessed and approved online. The decision was following the country’s initiative to welcome international commercial flights again on April 17.

Travelers must show proof of Covid-19 vaccination, negative results of a PCR test taken before their flight and an applicable travel insurance policy in order to successfully apply for the said visa. Upon arrival, visitors must take an ATK rapid test.

It can be recalled that prior to the pandemic, Myanmar was visited by 4.36 million visitors in 2019, but the country shut down international tourism due to rising infections.

Regardless, United States Department of State issued a Level 4 travel advisory for the country due to “areas of civil unrest and armed conflict,” as Myanmar is currently experiencing clashes between the military-led government and resistance groups.
