Morocco has proudly regained its status as the top tourist destination in Africa, as announced by Mustapha Baitas, the Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesperson, during a press briefing held on Thursday in Rabat.

This significant achievement underscores Morocco’s commitment to enhancing its tourism sector and promoting the diverse experiences it offers. By the conclusion of 2024, Morocco has reached an impressive milestone of 17.4 million tourists, which marks a historic increase of three million additional visitors compared to the previous year. This translates to a remarkable growth rate of 20% in tourist arrivals when compared to 2023.

Baitas shared this information following a government council meeting, highlighting the successful efforts and strategies implemented to boost tourism in the country. The Moroccan government has undertaken an ambitious project that has enabled it to meet the target outlined in its tourism sector roadmap two years ahead of schedule. The original goal was to welcome 17 million tourists by 2026, and this achievement reflects the government’s effective strategies and initiatives in promoting Morocco as a premier travel destination. According to a recent press release from the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, this positive trend is evident in the growth of foreign tourist arrivals, which reached 8.8 million visitors, reflecting a 23% increase.

In parallel, Moroccan expatriates contributed significantly to the tourism figures, accounting for 8.6 million arrivals, which represents a 17% increase. This balance between foreign tourists (51%) and Moroccan expatriates (49%) highlights the ongoing appeal of Morocco as a destination for both international visitors and those from the Moroccan diaspora. This resurgence in tourism not only showcases Morocco’s rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes but also underscores the effectiveness of its promotional strategies and the hospitality of its people.
