DESTINATION: MYANMAR
Myanmar possesses 2,823 km of largely untouched coastline, and is home to a myriad of cultural and historical attractions. The country stretches from the foothills of the Himalayas to just north of Phuket, Thailand.
Yangon is the main hub through which most people arrive and depart, and definitely worth to explore on its own account. The 3 main sites that are added to the itinerary are Bagan, Inle Lake and Mandalay, which are connected by domestic air service. An overnight Irrawaddy river cruise between Mandalay and Bagan is also popular. Depending on time available there are wonderful other stops to add including the fabled “Hill Stations”, Pindaya Caves, Mt Popa and of course the wonderful beaches in Ngapali and Mergui!
Myanmar is home to some of the most beautiful Buddhist relics and temples. Shwedagon Pagoda was built 2,500 years ago to enshrine Buddha’s hair and other holy relics. The main pagoda is covered with hundreds of gold leaves and the top of the stupa is encrusted with 4531 diamonds; the largest of which is a 72-carat diamond!
Bagan is the biggest and most concentrated place of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupa’s and ruins in the world. Established in the second century AD it was once a Kingdom with more than 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries.
