Japan is an ancient culture that is remarkably unique with a fascinating juxtaposition of old versus popular culture in cuisine, architecture, performing arts, fashion and customs, clinging to traditional culture at the same time as it explores new expressions. With over 6,800 islands ranging from the tropical islands of Okinawa with its beautiful beaches to northern Hokkaido with snow-capped mountains and ice festivals, the country has no less than 18 UNESCO Sites in Japan - 14 cultural and 4 natural, as well as 30 National parks, including Mt Fuji.
Japan has a great combination of excellent infrastructure, a large choice of convention centers and meeting options even in 2nd and 3rd tier cities, a network of airports and bullet trains and wonderful offsite dinner venues.
Japan is a country to experience, not just look at - though tea ceremonies, maid cafes, samurai lessons, VR Ninja fights, meditations at a temple, visiting fluorescent robot shows, seeing Sumo wrestlers practice, having sushi lessons, riding the bullet train and enjoying underground ramen shops. It even has the highest density of vending machines worldwide, with approximately 5 million machines, or 1 machine for every 23 people. You can buy everything from live lobsters, bread in a can and Buddhist amulets from a vending machine.
