EXPLORE THE GRAND
1. A Feast of Treats
The invention of afternoon tea is credited to Anna Russell, Duchess of Bedford, who, in 1840, had a craving for something to stave off hunger between lunch and dinner. Afternoon Tea in Madeleine is served on hand-finished bone china, and follows the traditional service of sandwiches, followed by scones, with pastries to finish, all of them freshly made by the Grand Hotel’s pastry team, and with a festive twist this December.
2. WHERE THE OLD MEETS THE NEW
Beautifully restored and bursting with ”wow factor”, the Grand Ballroom is once again opening its doors to some of Birmingham’s most glamorous occasions.
Our nine additional meeting and event spaces combine period character with the latest technology, while our team of chefs can cater to every need, from a business breakfast and working lunch to a four-course feast. If you’re looking for a show-stopping event space in a city-centre location, there’s nowhere quite like The Grand Hotel Birmingham.
The Grand Ballroom - Grand in scale and extraordinary in detail, the Grand Ballroom is a showstopper of a room, and sure to leave a lasting impression.
3. Isaac’s
Isaac’s is a neighbourhood restaurant with a New York vibe. Tucked around the corner and with its entrance on Barwick Street, Isaac’s is a new kid on the block that feels as if it’s been around for ever – a welcome addition, we hope, to Birmingham’s thriving restaurant scene.

5. EAT OUT IN STYLE
Our restaurant and bars reflect the heritage and internationality of grand hotels around the world, where local neighbours rubbed shoulders with people from all walks of life and from around the world.
Madeleine is, we think, one of the most beautiful bars in Birmingham: a slice of Parisian chic on Colmore Row. Champagne, cocktails and bar snacks take their cue from France with a nod to the West Midlands. From Wednesday to Sunday, we serve afternoon tea in Madeleine salon: the traditional three courses of sandwiches; scones with jam and clotted cream; and cakes that are as pretty as a picture, accompanied by your choice of Newby loose-leaf tea and a glass of Champagne (or a non-alcoholic cocktail, if you’d prefer).
Tucked around the corner, on Barwick Street, you’ll find Isaac’s, our New York-style restaurant, serving American comfort food (from burgers and hot dogs to grits and cheesecake) alongside brasserie classics such as steak tartare, 30-day aged steak, Caesar salad, and baked Alaska.
