Things to know about the Valle del Cocora

The Cocora Valley is located a few kilometres from the typical and colourful village of Salento with its magnificent colonial blacons, inside the Los Nevados National Natural Park, in the department of Quindio.

This region is famous for its excellent coffee and its typical zona cafetera landscapes mixing mountains, plantations and small quiet villages.

The Cocora Valley has a unique attraction in the world: the wax palm! This incredible palm tree averages 60m tall easily reaching 80m high! It is so called because wax can be extracted from its bark to make candles for example.

Endowed with an exceptional longevity, many are centenarians and have the particularity to live and survive in the middle of the mountains, they are the only ones you will see in such an environment.

Colombia also has one of the highest diversity of Hummingbirds in the world with over 120 different species. In addition to finding them all over the valley, a hummingbird house will ensure that you get a privileged look at this incredible little bird with its many colours.
