Cancun, Riviera Maya Region removes mask requirement

Cancun, Riviera Maya Region has totally dropped its mask mandate following the decrease of the state’s Covid-19 cases with no deaths occurring for five weeks straight.

Governor Carlos Joaquín announced at the Mexico News Daily that the use of masks will now be optional in the region where famous tourist destinations are located like Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Cozumel.

People with medical conditions are still recommended to continue wearing masks and on public places like public transport and indoors where there’s insufficient ventilation, noting that it is a personal responsibility, according to the governor.

Joaquin though assures that the mask mandate could be reinstated if the situation calls for it.

Mexican states like Baja California Sur, Baja California, Mexico City, Tamaulipas and Nuevo León also dropped mask mandates.
