Japanese Sumo comes to the Edinburgh Fringe this August
This month, Japanese Sumo makes its debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with The Sumo Show from Hirakuza.
Following on from their huge success at the Adeleide Fringe in Australia, where they welcomed over 10,000 visitors and were honoured with the Pick of the Week award, Hirakuza are delighted to be bringing their “Edu-tainment” show to an even bigger stage at the world’s largest performing arts festival.
The Sumo Show Hirakuza combines powerful live demonstrations by former professional wrestlers with clear, accessible English commentary, bringing sumo to a brand new audience and broadening the appeal to people who may never have considered it before. The hour-long shows are on daily from 6th to 31st August (except 18th) at Underbelly George Square, with tickets and more information available here.
Anyone interested in finding out more about sumo can also see the Hirakuza performances in Tokyo at The Live Restaurant Hirakuza Ginza and in Osaka at The Sumo Hall Hirakuza Osaka where the concept originated and developed.
Explore sumo and enjoy the three highlights of the Hirakuza performances: Unrivalled Power & Gracious Artistry; Laugh & Learn Sumo Culture; and an interactive experience that will be unforgettable.
